Freeform Inlaid Taxco Pendant in Sterling Silver Pendant
Many Mexican silver designers have a huge following today. Especially designers that were working in the 1940s. During World War II shortages and rationing of brass, copper and other hard metals made silver the metal of choice for much of the jewelry of that period. Much of this work came out of a small town in Mexico called Taxco. Some pieces will be signed and some will not. Names to look for are William Spratling, Margot de Taxco, Hector Aguilar, Los Ballesteros, and Los Castillo. There are many many other silver marks and designers. Collectors of these pieces often settle into collecting the work of one or two designers.
